4 wounded in Abu Sayyaf assaul

Abu Sayyaf gunmen assaulted a paramilitary outpost in southern Philippines on Saturday, wounding four persons, local newspaper Inquirer reported on its website.
The attack was staged at around 06:00 a.m. local time in Sumisip, Basilan Province, Inquirer quoted the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as saying.
The four wounded include a soldier and three members of the Civilian Armed Auxiliary (CAA) during the attack on the outpost in a village, Westmincom spokesperson Lieutenant Esteffani Cacho said.
"The soldier and the CAAs were manning the temporary checkpoint when Abu Sayyaf gunmen staged the harassment," Cacho said.
The 380-strong Abu Sayyaf group, founded in early 1990s by Islamic extremists, is notorious for kidnappings, bombings and even beheadings in southern Philippines over the past decade.
