Just one U.S. Supreme Court justice appears on Time magazine’s 2010 list of the world’s most influential people.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor makes the list, but none of her colleagues are there. The magazine cites her modest upbringing and her deep “understanding of how most people who walk down Broadway, or Main Street, live their lives.”

Sotomayor is one of at least eight current and former lawyers on the list. Others include:

• President Barack Obama, a graduate of Harvard Law School.

• U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., the Senate minority whip.

• U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., the little-known candidate who won the special election to replace Ted Kennedy.

• Former President Bill Clinton.

• Elizabeth Warren, the Harvard law professor who is the congressional overseer for the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

• Lawyers David Boies and Theodore Olson, opponents in the Bush v. Gore case and now colleagues challenging California’s ban on gay marriage.
