Yale was also No. 1 in the U.S. News overall law school rankings, according to a comparison chart prepared by TaxProf Blog. Harvard Law School, second in the overall rankings, traded places with Stanford in the clerkship rankings.

TaxProf Blog’s comparison chart also includes a ranking based on the schools’ percentage of Supreme Court clerkships for the 2000-2008 terms. Yale tops that list as well, while the University of Chicago is second. The Supreme Court clerkship ranking was developed by University of Chicago law professor Brian Leiter.

Here is top five list from U.S. News, based on the percentage of 2008 law graduates going on to federal clerkships:

1) Yale, with 31.4% in federal clerkships

2) Stanford, with 22% in federal clerkships

3) Harvard, with 15.5% in federal clerkships

4) Duke and the University of Chicago, with 13% in federal clerkships

Duke was ranked 11th in the overall rankings, but it moved up to fourth place in the clerkship rankings, tying with the University of Chicago, which had been ranked fifth overall.
