Vt. primary results to be certified; recount set

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The results of last week's Vermont primary are set to be certified by the secretary of state, but that doesn't mean the election's over.

Officials are to gather at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the secretary of state's office in Montpelier to certify the results of the primary.

As soon as that happens, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Doug Racine is expected to use those results to amend a filing he made Monday in Washington Superior Court calling for a recount.

That's a process that could take until late next week and perhaps stretch into the following week, though an aide to Racine says he's looking for ways to speed it up.

As things stand now, Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin is in the lead for the Democratic nomination.
