Court hears arguments on campus Christian group

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court is pondering whether a law school can deny recognition to a Christian student group because it won't let gays or non-Christians join.

The court hears arguments on that question Monday as the Christian Legal Society tries to get justices to overturn a decision made by the Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.

Hastings officials say that telling non-Christians or gays they cannot become officers or voting members of the society is discriminatory. They refused to allow the society to become an official campus group.

Lower courts have upheld the school's position.

The Christian society says the school is discriminating against it because of its beliefs. The organizations want the same access as other campus groups.
