A well-known graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School is donating $1 million to the two schools, part of which will fund public-interest jobs for 10 law school alumni.

Sumner Redstone, the executive chairman of Viacom Inc., announced the donation and the funding of the 10 Redstone Fellowships for law graduates on Friday, reports the National Law Journal in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

"As the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's presidency nears, we reflect on how his influence sparked an era of optimism, activism and national service," said Redstone. "I have established these scholarships to help celebrate President Kennedy's spirit by fostering a focus on education and a renewed commitment to public service."
