Germany, Mexico trying to push climate talks ahead

BERLIN (AP) - Germany and Mexico will co-host a conference of 45 countries this weekend to get negotiations on a global climate deal moving again.

German Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen says both countries decided to invite ministers and high representatives from all world regions to the Bonn meeting starting Sunday to build trust and pave the way for a good result at the U.N. climate meeting in Cancun, Mexico, in December.

The so-called Petersberg Dialogue will meet through Tuesday. The meeting is being held five months after the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen disappointed with a result that failed to prepare a new international treaty to curb global warming.

Negotiations began in 2007 to draft a new global climate treaty, which would take effect in 2013.
