President Obama’s interviews of potential Supreme Court nominees continued on Friday when he reportedly spoke to Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

The Wall Street Journal (sub. req.), Newsweek and Fox News reported the development, relying on unnamed sources.

The day before, Obama had interviewed 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Sidney Thomas of Montana. Judge Merrick Garland of the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., also had an interview earlier in April, the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) reports in a separate story.

Sources have said Obama is considering 10 people to replacing retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. But fewer lawyers are on the true short list, the Wall Street Journal says, relying on unnamed officials.

The shorter short list includes at least four possible candidates: Kagan, Thomas, Garland and Judge Diane Wood of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Wall Street Journal says.
