Calmer winds help battle against wildfire

PEDLEY, Calif. (AP) - California crews have contained a 500-acre wildfire in Riverside County that briefly forced the evacuation of a mobile home park.

State fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann says the blaze in the Glen Avon area was surrounded at 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The flames came close to homes in neighboring Fontana but there were no injuries or building damage.

Hagemann says calmer winds aided the 235 firefighters who battled the flames overnight.

The fire erupted Wednesday afternoon and forced the evacuation of 32 homes in the Santiago Estates Mobile Home Park near Pedley for about two hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
