2 killed in shooting spree on Long Island in NY

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Police say two people were shot dead during a shooting spree on New York's Long Island, including a nurse outside a hospital, and a corrections officer whose two relatives were also shot has been arrested.

Police say separate shootings occurred early Wednesday morning in Hempstead and East Meadow.

The 45-year-old nurse worked in the maternity ward of Nassau University Medical Center. Police say she was shot multiple times and found at about 1 a.m.

Police say that two others were shot in a second shooting several miles away in Hempstead. They believe those victims were the suspect's uncle, who was killed, and grandfather.

Police had no details on a possible motive for the shootings.
